Making Movies out of PowerPoint

I made a movie out of a PowerPoint presentation. I really enjoyed this assignment. It was nice working alongside my daughter who helped me understand all the Hebrew instructions. Aside from that, I also like learning how to make a movie out of a powerpoint presentation. This could be a very useful tool.

The fact that we had an assignment instead of a class was actually fine. In fact, I'm glad that even though we didn't have a lesson, there was still something to learn. And the fact that the teacher wasn't there to teach means that the time wasn't wasted.

Anyway, here's my video.

The Veldt - Interactive Video (ZAPTION)

I found an incredible video actually written by the same person who wrote the short of "The Veldt"! I wish I had bothered to look for a video back when we studied and analyzed the story. A study in comparison and contrast would have been awesome!

Anyway, I created an interactive video that I guess I'll use with my next class. I really did enjoy today's class, though.

The Problem with Technology

Well, if this class was supposed to demonstrate what can go wrong with technology, then this was the best class ever! Unfortunately, the network kept going down throughout the class, which made it difficult to actually experience how the various applications could be used in a classroom. Instead, the teacher had to describe it, which as we all know is not the same as experiencing it.

I didn't actually mind so much since I'm used to it. Where I work, the network goes down all the time and ultimately, I decide not to use technology at all. It's unfortunate as I would really like to use it in various ways since I do see it benefits.

Anyway, the homework assignment looks intimidating, but I'm hoping once I get started, I won't feel so overwhelmed by it.

Short but sweet post today. Till next week!

The First Among Peers

2/3/2016

I attended my first class. Sadly, due to the lines at the coffee shop, I was late for class. Anyway, I hadn't missed much since the instructor was faced with a technical problem and was had just finished solving it when I walked in. Thank goodness!

Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised by this class. First of all, due to Hebrew being my second language and this being a technological class, I felt quite apprehensive about the course. But half way through the course, I began to feel exuberated as I truly understood each and every word (with the exception of a word or two).

More importantly, though, I really loved the class because it was interesting and fun! Everyone was engaged and I instantly began to brainstorm how I could use the methods in my own classroom. Sadly, I work in a school where the "computer room" (more like a closet) has about 4 out of 6 working computers and my classes consist of 7-8 students, without an overhead projector. Not to mention the fact that the computers are constantly crashing.

Thus, while I walked out of the class feeling inspired to use technology (and I've always been one to especially not use technology in my class), I also felt deflated because I'll never get to use any of the tools I am going to learn this semester.

I do look forward to an amazing semester of learning new things and constantly being inspired. Who knows, perhaps our whole-in-the-wall little school will finally get it together and revamp the whole technology issue. Until then, I intend to be a sponge absorbing as much information as possible.
